Munster Under 14 Girls League Match Report

Waterpark 52 – 20 Youghal/Midleton

Waterpark U14 girls team took to the field on Saturday evening under lights to take on Youghal / Midleton in Munster U14 league Conference 3. The visitors kicked off and put us under pressure straight away.  Park were unable to secure there own ball and Youghal used some quick hands to put them in for the first try of the game. Park kicked off and again Youghal piled on the pressure, but Park held out and after winning the ball back in our 22 some quick ball from some rucks allowed Park to put Marylou Keena free and run in a long range effort. The conversion hit the post. The next period of play was nip and tuck with both teams having plenty of opportunities to score next. Youghal piled the pressure on and took a quick tap penalty and went over in the Corner. Again the Park girls had to defend resolutely and again after winning the ball deep in their own 22 they worked up the field with some good handling work and out half Kate Gillen went in for the next try. With Molly O’Driscoll adding the conversion.
Scrum half Cora Miller sniped around the side of a ruck to go clear to score Parks 3rd try. With the conversion missed. Half time score Waterpark 17 Youghal/Midleton 10
After the HT break Waterpark turned the tables and started to apply the pressure and it wasn’t long before replacement scrumhalf Elaina Coady went in under the posts. Conversion by Molly. Rebecca Cunningham was next to cross the white wash after some great work by the pack left gaps in the defence and she broke 2 cover tackles and scored under the posts. Conversion by Molly.
Again to there credit Youghal/Midleton fought their way up the field to score another well worked try.
With both teams starting to tire gaps appeared in defense with MaryLou scoring 2 tries with Molly converting both. Youghal came back again with another try after some hard work by their girls but Park again responded with great pressure from the kick off to capitalise on a split ball and Marylou scored the last try of the game. Molly converted again. Final score 52 – 20
A great start to the league by this young and inexperienced Park side with some fantastic passages of play by both teams. The Waterpark girls will host a Bruff/Garryowen side next Sunday.
